On April 22, 2017, Team Walk n’ Roll of Relay for Life of Loudoun County, together with CrossFit Sterling, will host its first ‘CrossFit for a Cure’ Charity WOD fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Relay for Life (RFL) is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society (ACS) that raises over 40% of the funding for ACS research, education, prevention, advocacy and patient services. RFL is a team fundraising event held over 6-24 hours on a track to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don’t stop because they’re tired, and for one night, neither do we.
‘CrossFit for a Cure’ will be a three-part workout, named after three people close to the organizer: “Alison Fights Back”, followed by “Tommy’s Tribute” and ending with “Gill’s Three Little Birds.” The workout was created to be scalable for any ability, so that everyone can come out to participate, in either the Rx division, Scaled division (beginners welcome!), or Survivor/Caregiver division. Movement Standards for Divisions:
Cancer Survivor/Caregiver Division – Rx or Scaled movement standards. All survivors/caregivers will be grouped together.
Rx Movement Standards:
Wall Balls (20# /14#)
Kettlebell Swings (32kg/24kg)
Box Jumps (24”/20”)
HSPUs (with ab mat)
Pullups, chin over bar (no bands)
Toes 2 Bar
Scaled Movement Standards:
Wall Balls (14#/10#)
Kettlebell Swings (24kg/16kg)
Box Jumps or Step-Ups (20”/16”)
Hand-Release Pushups, Pushups, or Modified
Cleans (95#/63#) or Kettlebell/Dumbbell Cleans
Banded pull ups or Ring Rows
Knees 2 Elbows/Hanging Knee Raises
Thrusters (95#/63#) or Double Kettlebell/Dumbbell Thrusters
Burpees or modified burpees
Can I register the day of the event?
Online registration will close 72 hours before the event (April 19, 2017) to enable timely formation and notification of heats. There will not be event day registration.
Do I need a hardcopy of my payment receipt and registration?
No, but please have access to it on a mobile device, if needed.
I registered for Rx and I need to do Scaled Division. Can I change my registration information?
Yes. Email email@example.com with updated information no less than 72 hours prior to the event day.
Is there an age limit for the event?
Minimum age for participants is 16 years old by the date of the event. Registrants aged 16-18 years must provide a parental or guardian signed waiver on the day of the event.
I don’t know what Division to register under. Help me.
If you are a cancer survivor, currently battling, or are a caregiver, regardless of scalability register under the Survivor/Caregiver Division. If you have been doing CrossFit but cannot safely and properly complete all of the listed movements, are new to CrossFit, are active but have never tried CrossFit, or don’t exercise but would like to participate and support the cause, register under Scaled Division. If you can safely and properly complete all of the listed movements standard, register for Rx Division.
I have no clue what any of the movements mean, but I want to participate for the cause. What do I do?
Register for Scaled or Survivor/Caregiver Division, as applicable. We will go over the movements and workout at 0900 on the morning of the event. In addition, you can contact the organizer for any questions. The workout was created to be scalable for any ability, so that everyone can come out to participate. Please, register – you’ll get a sweat in and have fun!
Is there parking?
Yes. If parking is unavailable in front of the CrossFit Sterling building, there is ample parking throughout the business complex, within close walking distance.
What else will be at the event?
We will have vendor(s), a silent auction basket, luminaria lanterns to dedicate, food/beverages/snacks, music, energy, and awesome people coming together to fight cancer!
I like free stuff. Will there be swag?
We are working on obtaining a variety of sponsor freebies, samples, gear, and food/beverages for participants. Stay tuned to the FB page for updates.

Can I bring pets to the event?
Unfortunately, we will not have room to accommodate pets of any kind, including gold fish.
